Taraba: People living with HIV/AIDS protest lack of drugs
Over two hundred persons living with HIV/AIDS converged at the Federal Medical Centre Jalingo protesting lack of drugs yesterday.
Our reporter, who was at the Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo said the patients were seen standing in groups expressing their grievances.
Coordinator in-charge of HIV/AIDS patients unit, Johnson Abraham, said the on-going strike at the Federal Medical Centre resulted to the tampering with the administration of drugs to the patients, saying any attempt to default the administration of the drugs would affect patients seriously, especially unborn babies.
Abraham lamented that the management of the Federal Medical Centre allowed HIV/AIDS patients to languish in the hospital without making any provision for their drugs, describing the situation as pathetic.
He urged the patients to remain calm as the issue will be addressed, and appealed to the state government to assist the persons living with HIV/AIDS with the requisite drugs.
The Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo, Yunusa Wiza however, refused to see our reporter for comment.
