From Uche Nnorom, Makurdi

A member of the Aitku Abubakar Campaign Organization, Ms Josephine Wanshima has frowned at the political antics of former Governor Gabriel Suswam, noting that it almost caused Benue delegates to vote against former Vice President Aitku Abubakar at PDP Presidential Primary election held in Port Harcourt last weekend.
Ms Wanshima made the disclosure while addressing newsmen in Makurdi on the aftermath of the PDP convention where Aitku Abubakar emerged as Presidential candidate of the party.
She alleged that Suswam was using Aitku organization campaign logistics to galvanize support for a candidate of his choice rather than Aitku, noting that the development almost caused Aitku to lose Benue.
She further said that the former governor told Benue delegates to vote Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, instead of Atiku.
“When I finished my primary elections where I contested for House of Representatives for Kwande/Ushongo federal Constituency, I immediately left for Port Harcourt; and my arrival change the direction of Benue delegates.
“This is because Suswam diverted all the logistics meant for the Benue delegates to his personal use and was also using same to lobby them to vote for a candidate of his choice other than Aitku.”
“Immediately I entered the venue of the convention, I sat close to the principal private secretary to Governor Ortom, Steven Amase, who hinted me that nobody from Aitku campaign organization has come to address Benue delegates, even though he is an observer but had some delegates who are ready to vote Atiku. It was then I stood up from my seat to go meet Aitku.
“It was at that point again that a commissioner in Benue met me and repeated same thing. And upon my enquiry from the Director General of Aitku Abubakar Campaign Organization, Gbenga Daniel, I was told that Suswam was given charge to speak with the Benue delegates.
“Instead of Suswam to deliver Atiku Abubakar messages to his people, he rather used the resource to canvass votes for another aspirant.”
“It took several interventions to calm the situation, because I joined hands with other people who were supporting Atiku to withdraw all the logistics and other resources from Suswam and gave it back to the delegates from the state,” Wanshima stated.
However, the former Senior Special Assistant to former President Goodluck Jonathan on Jobs creation, expressed gratitude to the Benue delegates for not letting Alhaji Atiku Abubakar down and appealed to them to reciprocate similar gesture in the general election.
Efforts to get the reaction of Gabriel Suswam proved abortive, as he refused to pick several calls made to his mobile phone.
