Unidentified gunmen suspected to be assassins operating in Emovor Community in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State in the early hours of Thursday allegedly killed a middle aged security guard identified as Jonathan Ikah during his duty hours and dumped his body into the bush.
Eyewitness Oghonovo Frank said the victim was allegedly shot dead by the assailants at about 5pm at his place of work (name withheld) on the chest twice before he gave up the ghost and was dragged into the bush where his Corpse was found by Security agents who acted on a tip off and distressed calls.
But the Police Public Relations officer in the State, DSP Onome Onovuwakpoyeya who Confirmed the incident to Journalists in Asaba, said that the Police have moved into action with a view to ensuring the Suspects are arrested, adding that the Police will continue to maintain law and order in the State as investigation was on going.
Sources alleged that the Suspects had earlier traced the victim to the marriage ceremony of his Sister in the community before the bubble burst, unfortunately for the Suspected assailants he left the marriage ceremony before they arrived the Scene.
It was gathered that the victim who also deal in the Supply of Sand and gravel was said to have retired to where to change his clothes when the Suspects allegedly Swooped on in rounds of bullets that ended his life. Police at Emovor Police Station on Condition of anonymity said”We are investigating the matter, we don’t know why he was killed, we will leave no Stones unturned to arrest those behind the act”
Some residents of the Community who spoke to Journalists on Condition of anonymity said” the killing of Jonathan is shocking and those people who killed him will not go unpunished, he is such a nice man and does nothing to offend anyone in Emovor Community, We demand the Police to fish out his Killers as soon as possible”
Meanwhile, following the recent tussel over the Chairmanship of OML 30 Community Development Board,( CDB) the Chairman of Isoko South Local Government Council, Sir Constantine Itiako Ikpokpo has Sternly warned Protesters over the indiscriminate Protests and Counter Protests around Oil installations in Oleh, Uzere ,Olomoro in the Past three days.
Speaking at a meeting he held with the traditional rulers, President Generals of Isoko Communities under the oil mining lease, OML 30, heads of the Security agencies at the local government on Wednesday, the Council Boss noted that though the People have the right to Protest against Perceived Injustice but it must be orderly and Peaceful and warned any further attempt to disrupt operations in any of the Oil facilities will be viewed as economic Sabotage and perpetrators will be made to face the wrath of the law as government will not fold its hands and allow Isoko Communities turn into war zones.
