Surveyors warns public developers to desist from quack surveyors

The Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS), has warned the public developers to desist from using untrained surveyors for any form of construction in the country.
Mr Mohammed Abba, NIQS President, gave the warning at news conference about the forth coming 2020 Annual General Meeting of the institute scheduled to hold from 11 to 13 Nov. in Niger State.
Abba, who highlighted on importance of members of the body and the purpose of the establishment of NIQS, said activities of quacks in the field are unprofessional and unacceptable in the construction industries.
“Making the message available out there to anybody who is contemplating or already in one way or the order involved in the quacks practice but not in the manner clearly spelt out in the Act of establishing NIQS.
“Definitely we will come after him and he would be prosecuted, that is the message.
“Then to the clients and also to the developers, why will you want to engage the quack when you have quantity surveyors very closed to you.
“Just at the tip of the bottom of our website, you will see all the lists of all quantity surveyors on our website, “ Abba explained.
Speaking further on the transformation of the institute, Abba said NIQS is embarking on rebranding processes in order to properly situate the institute within the context of domestic and global changes.
This, the NIQS President explained that it was to ensure that the institute remains relevant to the society to discharge its obligations to its members and the general public in the most effective ways.
According to him, the 2020 AGM will address some of the critical issues to include unveiling of its new brand identity in Minna.
And also plans to leverage on the next 50 years of NIQS for wider reimbursement of its members and the larger society.
“50 years after the NIQS came into existence, major changes in the political, social, and technological environment has had tremendous impact on the institute and quantity surveying profession.
“In the next 50 years, the institute will be anchored on foundation that can be leveraged on by its members to the benefit of the wider society, “ he said.
