Super Falcons youngster Asisat Oshoala has expressed confidence that the team will go to Namibia and bring back the African Women Championship trophy in the ninth edition billed to commence on October 11, 2014. Oshoala was one of the thirty invited by the Nigeria Football Federation to prepare for the competition in which the Falcons finished fourth last term.
The Super Falcons are in group A with host Namibia, Zambia and Ivory Coast who edged out last year’s champions Equatorial Guinea.”Yes, we can bring back the trophy, I believe in us and I am sure we can do it,” she said in an interview when asked if she could perform the same magic as she did at the FIFA U20 Women World Cup in Brazil.
Asisat further went to thank fans for their support and prayers. “I really want to thank the fans for their support and their prayers for me personally and to the team, I really appreciate the support,” the Golden Ball winner continued.
The Falcons will resume preparations in earnest for the AWC next week. They have won six of the eight previous trophies and will hope to reclaim the one they lost to Equatorial Guinea two years ago when they finished fourth.
