The Lagos state governor, BabajideSanwo-olu has promised to support AsisatOshoala Foundation
The governor made the pledge when the Super Falcons captain and founder of the foundation, AsisatOshoala paid him a visit in the government house on Saturday.
Governor Sanwolu who said the Lagos State government and the people are proud of the star that rose from Ikorodu described her as a worthy ambassador of the state.
“Super Today, (Saturday)@AsisatOshoala paid me a courtesy visit. She is a worthy ambassador of Lagos from Ikorodu & we are proud of her,” he said on his official twitter handle.
Adding further “She spoke about her plans for the AsisatOshoala Foundation and I promised to support her.”
The governor noted that “We kicked the ball for a bit and I think I still have my skills.”
AsisatOshoala, four-time Africa Women’s Player of the Year, established the foundation, AsisatOshoala Foundation to champion the course of women participation in football as well as other careers.
Recently she explained how the foundation is working and why it was established
“I have an opportunity through football. It is something I acknowledge and I’m grateful for, but beyond football, I am fully concentrated on my foundation,”
“Even when I’m not around, my foundation takes care of the less privileged. We’ve been involved in feeding programmes, especially during Ramadan periods, visiting schools, distributing books and educational materials to students and even partnering with a major pharmaceutical company to donate drugs and health equipment to hospitals.
“I believe it’s the only way I can connect with the grassroots. I have a world outside football and that is exactly why I am fully committed to my youth empowerment programme and other social projects.”
“Girls that pass through the foundation have got the chance to train with FC Robo. Chidinma Okeke is a success story today,” Oshoala said.
“She played at the World Cup for Nigeria. So, it’s not like they just come and go. We have a vision for these kids, if you want to help someone, you don’t do it halfway. And besides, we currently have three kids in the UK.”
Every year, Oshoala through her foundation hosts the AsisatOshoala U-17 Football Tournament for young girls. Talents discovered from these tournaments get the opportunity to train with Robo FC the club in Mushin that Oshoala started from.
