The acting governor of Taraba state, Alh. Garba Umar yesterday alleged that the cabal that have surrounded the ailing governor Danbaba Suntai have long been planning to take over government from him by heating the polity of the state.

The acting governor, who made the allegation on the Hausa Service of the BBC monitored in Jos, said that the cabal had several times explained that Suntai had recovered and is fit to resume office, adding that despite all their claim on his recovery, yet, it remains to be seen.

He added that the continued effort by the cabal to be going up and down with the ailing governor did not indicate their love for him.

He said, “Those who have surrounded Suntai are intending to take over the government from me and that is why they have been heating the polity of the state. They have been saying that he has recovered and will return to office; yet, we have not seen him. Their effort to bring him back to office is an indication that they don’t like him”.

When asked to comment on the health condition of his principal, Umar said, “ I have been refused to see him by the cabal and that is why I can’t give you the detail of Suntai’s health condition. I could remember that when he (Suntai) was returned from his first nurse in America, I was only permitted to see him once in ten months; so I can’t say much on his health condition”.

On the allegation that the acting governor is planning to impeach Suntai, Umar dispelled such insinuations, saying, “It is not true. We only want the law to prevail; and the Speaker of the House has already set up a medical team to check if Suntai is capable of continuing or not.”
