A suspected suicide bomber was yesterday burnt to death by angry youths, who pounced on him while he was trying to detonate a bomb at a busy motor park in Gombe, the state capital.
The suspected suicide bomber was said to have boarded a motorcycle to Gombe Line motor park in the afternoon, in order to accomplish his mission, before he ran out of luck and was later burnt into ashes by an angry mob in the area.
According to eyewitness, who spoke to our correspondent, the incident occurred at 1:00 p.m., when a suspected suicide bomber found his way to the busy motor park in Gombe, while he was trying to detonate a bomb in order to wipe out intending travelers who had already boarded vehicles to enable them travel other parts of the country.
Confirming the incident to newsmen, Gombe state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Kudu Nma, said a suspected suicide bomber was intercepted at the Gombe Line motor park with view to detonating a bomb in the area, adding that when the suspect was asked to subject his bag for screening, he refused to comply to the security operatives at the gate.
The Police boss said with the intervention of the local security and the Police, who insisted that the bag belonging to the suspect must be screened, to ensure that no one entered the park with any explosive devise, noting that the suspect later dumped the bag at the gate of the motor park before angry youths pounced on him and thereafter, set him ablaze.
He said during the incident, security agents were able to recover five Rocket-Propelled Grenades (RPGs) from the suspect.
He commended the effort of the security agents, for working tirelessly to ensure that the issue of insurgency in the country would be a thing of the past.
Our correspondent also reported that armed security men were seen cordoning the area in order to protect lives and property of citizens.
