Over N2.3m naira belonging to the Taraba state Local Government Service Commission has been stolen yesterday, in the car of the Accountant of the Commission, Shehu Saman.
Chairman of the Commission, Jankanti Paulinus Ganya, who confirmed this to our reporter in Jalingo, said the money was for staff and students allowances.
According to the chairman, the Accountant, Shehu Saman and a commissioner with the Commission, Chindo Isa, briefed him yesterday that after cashing the money, he (the Accountant) went to Yelwa market in Jalingo and parked the car to buy soup ingredients but that when he returned after some few minutes he saw the side glasses of the car smashed and the money stolen.
Ganya said the matter has been reported to the appropriate authority for necessary action.
He appealed to the staff and students of the Commission that were supposed to benefit from the allowances to be patient as the incident was not intentional.
