From Femi Oyelola, Kaduna
The Kaduna state Governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai has been called upon to stop the unabated killings in the Southern Kaduna zone or resign from office.
The Treasurer of Christians Association of Nigeria,( CAN) Rev. Fr, Frederick Byet made the call during a sermon he delivered at the Prayer meeting for God intervention in Southern Kaduna killings .
Fr. Byet said the responsibility of any leader is to protect the lives of the citizens, but in a situation where people are killed under the watch of any leader and he remains silent, that shows he is no more in control and should honourably resign.
The Cleric added that if the same energy and resources Kaduna State Government deployed in checking the spread of Coronavirus pandemic is put in addressing the killings it would have been history by now.
He said the Government effort in addressing the issue of killings in southern Kaduna seems not to be yielding the deserved results hence the need for change of plans.
Speaking in the same vein, the National president of the Christians Association of Nigeria (CAN) Rev. Supo Ayokunle said Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir El-rufai as the Chief security officer in the state must rise to do the needful.
He added that nobody hates him as a leader because that is unscriptural but why all fingers are pointing at him is for him to stop the killings.
“Stop the killings in Southern Kaduna, unmask the unknown gunmen and bring them to justice because as Governor it is your constitutional duty.
“ We as Christians did not hate you but we are calling for you to stop the killings humans lives
matter and nobody has the right
“ All human lives matter to us and we cannot turn our face away from what is happening in the zone It painting us as barbaric people outside the country” He said
In his own remark, the National president of ECWA Rev. Stephen Payan Baba commended President Muhammadu Buhari for the deployment of more troop to the trouble zone
The Host the CAN Chairman in the state Rev, Joseph John Hayab said the the Church is only calling for justice and end to the killings in the region
According to him, the Fulani militia killed the natives and rustled the cattle of local Fulani herdsmen who have been living in peace with their neighbors for decades.
