A famous Islamic Scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi has urged Nigerians to stop calling the Boko Haram sect Islamic jihadists.
According to him, the activities of the sect are contrary to the laid-down Islamic teachings, both in the holy Quran and Hadith.
He stated this when he hosted some pastors and human right activists to the breaking of fast at his Kaduna residence, yesterday.
Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi emphasized that the five pillars of Islam is clear and that nobody can add or subtract from it. He further stated that the procedure of Jihad is clearly identified in the sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W).
“Today, we have learnt that some people come out and say that they are fighting because of Allah and in the same vein they are destroying people who are also following the same Allah; and we, as Muslims, know the consequence of killing a fellow Muslim.
“I have said it at any available opportunity that the ideology of the Boko Haram is not acceptable to me. Allah, the Almighty Himself, emphasized on seeking knowledge and learning. And that is why the Prophet Mohammed (S.A.W) instructed his followers to go to as far as Masar and Syria to seek for knowledge, so I don’t know where the Boko Haram got their own ideology from,” Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi said.
The Islamic cleric added that insurgencies thrive today in the country because of the high level of corruption, injustice and unemployment and not because people believe more in their religion.
He, therefore, called on people in high authority to create more jobs, reduce corruption and be just to everybody and that is the solution to the Boko Haram insurgency.
According to him, “The gap between the Christian and Muslim is minor,
because they are all Ibrahima faith and there is no need to take arms against each other.”
In his own remarks, the human right activist, Barrister Solomon Dalong said Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi has been a role model and a unifying force in Nigeria. He called on all upcoming Christian and Islamic preachers to follow the path of Dahiru Bauchi.
