The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the State Security Service (SSS) yesterday paraded four suspects for allegedly kidnapping and murdering of Mrs. Edith Chinedu.
While parading the suspects at the headquarters of the FCT Command of the SSS, Assistant Director Operations Ibrahim Halilu said the victim was was kidnapped on 29 June at her resident in Gwagwalada.
He said Mrs. Chinedu who is the proprietress of Chelson Group of Schools and Chief Executive Officer, Grant Micro Finance Bank, Gwagalada, Abuja was murdered two hours after her kidnap and buried in a bush after Yangoji village along Kwali-Lokoja expressway.
He said the victim’s driver, Ali Angba connived with one Maxwell Ajukwu, Solomon Amodu and Sunday Jacob to kidnap her.
Halilu said she was killed after identifying one of her abductors who is a friend to her driver. The kidnappers subsequently demanded a ransom of five million naira from the victim’s family after killing her.
On 6 July the sum of two million naira was dropped for the kidnappers around Obajana Road, Lokoja, Kogi state by the relations without informing the Service.
Halilu said that the suspects admitted that they committed crime and had agreed to lead operatives of the command to where they buried the woman for the corpse to be exhumed.
While responding to question from journalists, the suspects confessed to committing the crime, saying that it was her (victim’s) driver that instructed them to kill her since she has been able to identify one of them.
