Sports Ministry urged to recruit desk officers in schools

The Board Chairman of the FCT Secondary Education Board, Alhaji Mohammed Musa Yahaya, has called on the leadership of the Federal Ministry of Sports and Youth Development to employ Desk Officers in the public secondary schools in the territory.
He said if Desk Officers were recruited in the secondary schools, it would enable them to fish out talents among the students during the inter-house sports competitions.
Yahaya, who made this call while addressing the crowd during the 23rd inter-house sports competitions of Government Secondary School in Gwagwalada, charging the sports ministry to focus on the development of sports activities at the grassroots level in the interest of the youths living there.
He said his leadership would continue to give cooperation and support to the principals of the public secondary schools in the territory.
He, however, used the occasion to advise the students to shun examination malpractice and other social vices.
In his speech, the principal of the school, Dr Mohammed Sani Ladan, noted that the sports activities assisted the students to stay mentally as well physically alert.
He said: “Sports is one of the best unifying factors in our nation today. Nothing relaxes, creates joy and laughter like a good sporting event”.
His words: “This competition which is the best form of physical exercise will strengthen the body, develop the physique, discover talents, erase boredom and entertain sports’ lovers”.
The principal, however, thanked his fellow principal, the hard working staffers of the school and invited guests who graced the occasion.
Also speaking at the occasion, the board chairman in charge of the FCT Secondary Education Board, Alhaji Mohammed Musa Yahaya, said his leadership would continue to accord priority attention to inter-house sports competitions in the FCT secondary schools.
