SON pledges support for genuine entrepreneur

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) said it would continue to aid and support genuine business men through quality assurance and standardisation activities.
The Director-General of SON, Mr Osita Aboloma made the pledge at a one day capacity building programme on, Welding Practice, Procedures Quality Assurance, on in Kaduna yesterday.
Aboloma said that the capacity building workshop for welders will go a long way ensuring public safety and efficient service delivery.
Aboloma, represented by the Regional Coordinator, North-West region, Mr Dauda Yakubu noted that SON had recently set up sensitisation programme on “Ease of doing business” to reduce substandard goods in Nigeria.
“It is our collective effort to do the right thing for businesses, whether small or big in the construction industry value chain.
“SON is poised at ensuring improved quality /reduction of risk and a level playing field is created for manufacturers, importers, traders, exporters as well as product end-users.
According to him, this effort must ensure that genuine business persons are not disadvantaged by persons in the manufacturing, importation and sales of substandard products in the country.
Aboloma expressed optimism that at the end of the workshop, participants would have imbibed the requisite knowledge on the use of acceptable base material or plate surface condition.
Earlier, the State coordinator, SON Kaduna, Mr Danlami Datti, said the objective of the workshop is to put things right in terms of standardisation, quality and quality products.
Also the Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport, Hajiya Balaraba Inuwa said the Kaduna state government was committed to efficient service delivery.
Inuwa said that the government will partner with SON in promoting quality and standard goods while calling for all hands to be on deck to achieve the laudable initiative.
