From Raji Bello, Sokoto
Members of Sokoto state Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) have praised the state governor, Alhaji Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko for his commitment toward the well-being of pensioners in the state. The state chairman Alhaji Umaru Abubakar Tambuwal made the appraisal while at a press conference held in Sokoto, at the weekend while reacting to a recent publication in a national dailies (not Peoples Daily) that portraits the plights retired civil servants in a deteriorate manner.
He argued that the writer was ignorant of the handiwork of the Sokoto State government and the procedures connected to administration and payment of the terminal benefits. Tambuwal explained that, contrary to the report, the pensioners have been faring and have their gratitude that include terminal benefits upset under the present administration.
“It is on the record that the current administration of Governor Aliyu Wamakko paid the 13 months pending arrears to state and local government pensioners which the past administration failed to pay,” he explained.
Tambuwal also cited that the Wamakko-led administration has provided soft loan on motorcycles for its members unlike the huge interest rate obtained for the purpose under the previous government.
