Sokoto state government has approved the immediate recruitment of one hundred Diploma holders as drivers into the state civil service workforce.
The new recruits are to be deployed to various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of the state. This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Head of the Civil Service of the state, Alhaji Bature Shinkafi and made available to People’s Daily in Sokoto yesterday.
According to the statement, the new drivers to be employed will be drawn from the 23 local governments of the state. It stated, “the initiative was sequel to the changing trend which requires educated persons to handle hi-tech and modern vehicles.
“Most of these modern vehicles had been fully equipped with computers and other hi-tech gadgets,” it explained. The statement also disclosed that the state government had in the same direction bought several modern vehicles which need to be effectively and properly handled by educated and highly- skilled manpower. It further stated that the gesture would bolster the employment generation efforts of the teeming number of unemployed youths by the state government.
“All drivers currently in the employment of the state government will continue to serve in such positions. Necessary arrangements had been made to ensure the expeditious implementation of the project for the overall development of the state,” the statement, concluded.
