A governorship aspirant under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Sokoto State, Senator Umaru Dahiru has dismissed claims that the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal is posing a threat to his ambition.

Speaking to journalists yesterday when he returned his expression of interest and the nomination forms at the national secretariat of the party, Senator Dahiru said so long as there will be free and fair primary election, he will defeat Tambuwal at the primaries.

“Tambuwal can never be a threat to me, he is welcome to the contest, for me so long as there will be free and fair primaries, there is nothing to worry about. I believe if I defeated him he will concede defeat and even I will do the same.

When asked what he will offer differently to the people of the state he said “I will improve on the welfare of the people of Sokoto state. I believe something more needs to be done, and I believe I have the capacity to do much more than what is on the ground.

“With my experience and composure I believe if giving the mantle of leadership, I will improve on what is now currently on the ground especially in areas of education, health, infrastructure, agriculture and so many other things, we need to do more. And of course, as you know the issue of youth unemployment is the big challenge particularly in Sokoto.

On the issue of Tambuwal being an anointed candidate of the party, he said there is nothing like the anointed candidate in the APC. “anybody can claim to be or say it but it is the people of Sokoto that will determine it, I have said it before that nobody can determine anybody’s aspiration, my people want me to stand for them and I’m standing for them”, he said.
