The need to preserve eroding social values among Nigerians, especially women and youths, will top the agenda at the Edo women’s summit, scheduled to hold on today in Benin City, the Edo state capital.
According to the organisers, a group of Edo women in Diaspora, the summit will among others step up awareness campaign on the roles and importance of girl child in the nation’s socio-economic well-being.
The international experts expected at the event are to dwell on the theme of the summit: “Our Issues, Our Voices”, with a view to showcasing the average Edo woman’s achievement and put same forward as role models.
NBA elects Alegeh as President
A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mr. Augustine Alegeh, has emerged as the president-elect of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
Amaechi said the others were Mr. Oladele Adesina (SAN), 370 votes, Mrs Olufunke Adekoya (SAN), 255 votes, Mr. Adeniyi Akintola (SAN), 126 votes and Osas Erhabor, 17 votes.
Alegeh, who hails from Ikhabigbo, Etsako-West Local Government Area of Edo State, holds Bachelor of Laws from the University of Benin and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1986.
The president-elect and all newly elected officials will be sworn in at the NBA Annual General Conference in Owerri, between Aug. 24 and Aug. 29. (NAN)
