Sunshine Stars forward, Sikiru Alimi has expressed delight after being awarded the VAT Wonder Goal Award on Sunday.
The typical built athlete with scraggly beards was voted for the award following his goal against IfeanyiUba FC which his team lost by 3-.
According to a release by the League Management Company, LMC Media Officer, Harry Iwuala, the award was presented by Mr Ishola Akingbade, Federal Inland Revenue Service Coordinator for Kwara, Ondo and Ekiti States who represented the Ondo State Tax Coordinator, Lawal Bashir during the event which took place at the Akure Township stadium, Akure before the team filed out against NPFL ltable toppers, Lobi Stars of Markurdi in the Week 19 Match of the league.
Speaking after the award presentation, an elated Alimi said “The award is very motivating. It is the reason I work hard besides trying to help my club win. I will continue to perfect my game to make sure I win more for my club and for the opportunity to support charity.
“I am happy the FIRS and the League are helping us do charity work which is something I have always done in my own little way. I want to thank the organizers and also promise to do my best to fight for the award”.
Alimi further expressed worry over his team’s current position in the log insisting that their position on the log is not a true reflection of the hard work the players and coaches put in their matches.
“We have a very good team, the players are doing their best but we are not where we are supposed to be on the table and we will continue to work to get there, which is the top or near the top,” he said.
