Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno state yesterday inaugurated 19- man committee on the resuscitation of primary education in the state.
Inaugurating the committee at the Government House in Maiduguri, Governor Shettima said his administration accorded high priority to the education sector and is determined to actualise his dream by taking of children of all school age off the street.
He said education is the bedrock of any development, as such, his administration has sponsored many students to study in different institutions abroad, in the areas of medicine, Engineering and other important courses.
The governor stated that the committee`s terms of reference includes; assess the facilities and classroom accommodation of primary schools, introduction of at least one meal in each of the primary schools among others.
According to him, the pilot programme would take off in four local governments of Biu, Jere, Maiduguri metropolitan Council and Monguno.
The 19- man committee has the former commissioner of education, Dr. Mohammed El-nur Dongel as Chairman, while the permanent secretary ministry of Universal Primary Education Board, Alhaji Malam B Alau as secretary.
Responding, the chairman of the committee, Dr. El-Nur Dongel thanked the governor for finding them worthy to serve in the committee and assured the governor that they will justify the confidence reposed on them by dedicating themselves to the service for the people of the state.
He said with the calibre of people in the committee, he is optimistic that that they will successfully carry out their assignment diligently.
