The Shehu of Borno and Chairman, Borno state Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Abubakar Umar Garbai Al- El-Kanemi yesterday called on the Muslim community the state to commence a three-day fasting over the renewed spate of violence occassioned by the Boko Haram insurgency.

According to a statement, issued by Zanna Laisu Kazalma, Secretary, Borno Emirate Council, indicated that the fasting is to commence from Thursday, 4th to Saturday, September 6, 2014.

The statement also urged Muslims to equally offer special prayers in all mosques and recitation of Khalimat Shahada (La Ilaha Illallah), continuously during the fasting period.

All these, it added, were aimed at seeking divine intervention over the spate of the insurgency

It is also urged that every Muslim, individually and collectively, to offer Sadaqat, (alms) to the needy and less- privileged, especially the internally displaced persons affected by the insurgency and resettled in various camps.

Similarly, the monarch urged on the Christian community in the state not to relent in their continuous prayers for peace and security to prevail in Borno and the Nigeria as a whole.
