Nigerian premier league side, Lobi Stars of Makurdi have listed seven players for their 2013/14 End of Season Awards. This is the first time the 1999 Nigerian and 2003 Cup champions will reward outstanding players in their campaign.
According to the club’s Official Twitter handle, @LobiStars, the awards will be presented in two categories: Best Young Player/Rookie of the Season and Player of the Season. The nominees for Best Young Player are: Umar Mohammed, a left-sided player scouted from the youth side of Niger Tornadoes, Samson Gbadebo, a central defender who joined from Nembe City, as well as the duo of Terpase Tsafe and Dickson Eche Idakwo, who were promoted from the club’s development side, Lobi Stars Juniors, on the eve of the present campaign.
With five goals in his debut season, Idakwo is the only player nominated in the Best Young Player category with goals this term. Mohammed scored at Nembe City during the abandoned match, but his goal will not count as the match was awarded to the Makurdi side. Idakwo is the only player nominated in both categories.
Others nominated in the Player of the Season category are: Moses Bunde, who can play at right-back and midfield, central defender Felix Osia, who can also play at left-back and midfield, and goalscoring goalkeeper, Terkaa Melai. Bunde has four goals, while Melai is the leading goalscoring goalkeeper in the league with seven strikes, all from penalties.
The trio of Bunde, Melai and Idakwo are homegrown players developed at the club’s nursery, Lobi Junior Stars, which campaigns in the Nationwide League.
