Serie A club Benevento have been linked with a move for former Nigeria captain John Mikel Obi.
The Wizards will play in the top flight for the second time in their history next season, having won the 2019/20 Serie B.
Benevento first appearance in the Serie A was in the 2017/18 season.
The modest side are also on the verge of adding Mikel’s former Chelsea team-mate Loic Remy to their squad for the 2020/21 campaign.
According to a report in gianlucadimarzio.com, they are also targeting a move for Mikel, who is a free agent after leaving Turkish Super Lig club Trabzonspor in March.
Mikel left Trabzonspor by mutual consent in after expressing his concerns about the Turkish Super Lig continuing amid the global coronavirus pandemic.
The midfielder, who made 368 appearances for Chelsea between 2006 and 2017, has also been linked with Brazilian clubs Internacional and Botafogo.
Benevento is managed by former AC Milan and Juventus striker Filippo Inzaghi.
