Senator Zagi defects back to APC

From Femi Oyelola, Kaduna

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State yesterday announced that Senator Caleb Zagi, who represented Southern Kaduna Senatorial District from 2007 to 2011 have formally defected back to the APC from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Zagi who had earlier dumped the PDP in 2011 for the opposition returned back to PDP few months ago, before dumping them for the second time this week.

The publicity secretary of the APC in Kaduna State, Dr. Bege Katuka who confirmed to journalists in Kaduna said the leadership has accepted Senator Zagi’s defection.

Dr. Katuka said “We have formally received Senator Caleb Zagi back to our party and it is a good development, we are pleased with his return back to where things are working.

“Zagi explained deeply that it was a second chance he gave PDP, but on going back to the PDP, the internal democracy mechanism he think will be addressed was a mirage. The imposition of candidates and outright bending of party rules is still the order of the day.

“There is nothing empirical that shows, it is development and welfare of Nigerians that is their focus instead just power for selfish interests and causing havoc for Nigerians and for all these reasons, we are in the same direction and page.”

The spokesman also explained that the APC will soon receive prominent members of the ruling party into its fold.

He said “I can tell you that very soon, other prominent members of the ruling party will join us, it is matter of time and you will see it soon, it is a testimony that we are on course and unstoppable in the state.”

As at the time of this report, Senator Zagi when contacted confirmed the party’s announcement that he has dumped the party and presently taking part in all APC activities.
