Senator Ibrahim Gobir representing Sokoto east at the National Assembly, last weekend distributed foodstuffs worth 15 million naira to neediest people under his constituency that comprised Sabon-Birni, Isa, Gada, Goronyo, Wurno, Rabah, Illela and Gawadabawa local government areas.
In a statement, signed by his Press Secretary, Alhaji Mukhtar Sokoto and made available to Peoples Daily in Gusau, Zamfara state capital, the items distributed includes sugar, rice, corn, millet and milk aimed at ensuring affordability of feeding among the teeming less privileged and orphans under Sokoto-east during Ramadan fasting.
Other items were large quantity of wrappers and brocades meant to access thousands of orphans to clothing during Sallah celebrations, adding that the gesture would be all-year round, as more reliable sources for its sustenance would be co-opted.
The statement called on governments and individuals as well as human supportive organisations to double their efforts in enhancing welfare, as it would virtually help to back-pull the high rate of crime and the spur of insurgents that bedevilled the country.
It further urged the three-tiers of government across the country to, as a matter of peace and unity, continue to permanently exist, embark upon human building projects by a reasonable percentage to abreast with capital projects so that youths would know better how fast they contribute towards peace building in the country.
