The Senate Tuesday confirmed the re- appointment of Professor Mahmood Yakubu as Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for another five year tenure.
His confirmation followed a report presented by the Chairman Senate Committee on INEC, Senator Kabiru Gaya (APC Kano South), who said that he was screened and found worthy to continue for another term of five years.
Gaya explained that as difficult as the task of managing INEC was, there were no petitions to hinder the screening of Prof. Yakubu.
He urged senate to receive and consider the report of its Committee on INEC on the confirmation of the nomination of Professor Mahmood Yakubu for appointment as Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Similarly, Senator Sam Egwu, Senator Sandy Onorn and Senator James Ebiowo Manager, explained that the former INEC Chairman has done well and thus deserves another term of office.
In their individual contribution, they maintained that the Chamber should waste no time to confirm him, adding that as politicians who contested elections, they could witness the reform he has initiated to have free and fair elections in Nigeria.
His confirmation witnessed resounding affairnation through voice votes by the Senators when the question was out to that effect by the Senate President, Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan.
