The senator representing Akwa Ibom South in the Senate, Helen Esuene, has declared her intention to contest the governorship election of the state, even as she purchased yesterday, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) nomination form in Abuja.
Making this declaration yesterday at the PDP’s headquarters in Abuja shortly after purchasing the party’s governorship nomination form, she said “even though the state is bedevilled with political turmoil, I believe God would use me as a person to put things straight for the collective interest of all the people of the state”.
Esuene, who is presently a senator from Eket local government area of the state, told the press that she would rather have the blessing of the people than that of any other politician.
According to her, “I don’t believe that anyone is indispensable and whoever that feels he or she has the political might, could as well present himself or herself for scrutiny by the electorate. Democracy means what the people want and whoever that feels he or she is popular should avail himself to test his popularity”.
She promised that she would improve on the already existing programmes of the outgoing Governor, even as she stated that her administration would not be dishing out handouts to the people.
She also stressed that she has the blessings of the people of the state, even as she equally maintained that government is a continued process.
