From James Ogunnaike, Abeokuta
Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State has attributed the incessant breakdown of Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) in Ijebu area of the state to sabotage by yet to be identified people.
He has therefore called on all traditional rulers in the area to assist his government in sensitizing their people towards supporting the current security arrangement in the state saying that anytime the APC which develops fault is moved away from Ijebu area, it will begin to function optimally.
Amosun who expressed surprise on the state of the security vehicles during his assessment tour of Ijebu East local government area of the state explained that the APCs develop faults within a month of being moved to the area.
He wondered why banks in Ijebu area of the state would know that an APC will not work the following day and for that reason will refuse to open shops.
He explained that a text message was send to him last Sunday predicting that the security vehicles in Ijebu will not work on Monday and as such banks will not open adding that, as foretold, the APCs refused to work.
“On Sunday, I received a text message that banks in Ijebu will not work on Monday because APC will not work and I wonder how the banks will know that APC which worked on Friday will not work on Monday and truly on Monday, the APC did not work but we moved it away and it started working in another place, when we moved another one to Ijebu, it will not work again”, Amosun said.
“And strangely, all these normally happen when we are getting to the festive period.
There was always a problem with the APC and the only ones that normally develop the problem are those ones in areas I have mentioned but we will go back to the drawing board to make sure we do what is needed to be done,” he said.
Amosun, who explained that the APCs bought by the state government were the newest model in the world, assured that his government will do everything necessary to ensure security in all parts of the state.
