The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, rose from a crucial meeting with some of the party’s critical stakeholders from Kogi state in Abuja yesterday with an agreement to set up a committee to reconcile a former national chairman of the party, Dr. Ahmadu Alli with some aggrieved chieftains in the state. The planned committee is to reconcile Ahmadu Alli with two former governors -Idris Wada and Ibrahim Idris as well as and some other stakeholders in Kogi state..A chieftain of of the party in Kogi state, Dr. Halima Alfa confirmed this while answering questions from journalists at the end of yesterday’s meeting held at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.Dr. Alfa, who is also a lawyer, disclosed further that the reconciliation committee will be headed by the National Chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus.According to her, “We took a holistic review of the last election, what happened in the state in terms of logistics, in terms of thuggery, in terms of election, in terms of betrayal and in terms of the current leadership we have in the party and most importantly the tenure of the state executive council”All these were reviewed and we gave ourselves a task that a committee should be up so that we can address each issue. “In terms of our leadership crisis, especially as regards to Kogi East, the leadership crisis affected our election in Kogi east such that Kogi east lost both the National Assembly and the state House of Assembly.
“It was basically because of the leadership crisis we have within the PDP leadership in Kogi East. Kogi West made us proud, they buried their differences. “That did not happen in other senatorial districts, especially in Kogi east where we produced a governor for 13 years- 9 years of Ibrahim IDRIS and four years of Idris Wada and we thought that something went wrong and we are going to address it.”We are going to set up a committee under the leadership of our National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus to address the issues and make sure that we are reunited so that what happened will never happen again “The people of Kogi as it is today are looking onto the PDP for succour, to redeem them from the wound that they are in today from hunger, from death, from misery and from abject poverty.”They are looking on to us and because of that we have decided, as a people, to put our acts together, we have decided to appreciate each other, we have decided to forgive each other and we have decided to bring out a formidable candidate that every other Kogites will support and with the support of the National Secretariat, so that at the end of the day PDP will produce the next governor come November 2nd this year.
She explained that it was agreed at the meeting that a committee be set up under the leadership of the national chairman of the PDP to reconcile the two former governors Idris Wada and Ibrahim Idris, as well as former PDP National Chairman, Amadu Ali, and some other stakeholders in Kogi state.
According to her, “All these were reviewed and we gave ourselves a task that a committee should be set up so that we can address each issue. “In terms of our leadership crisis, especially as regards to Kogi East, the leadership crisis affected our election in Kogi east such that Kogi east lost both the National Assembly and the state House of Assembly”,she said.
Alfa revealed that the general thinking now was that the governorship candidate of the PDP should come from Kogi East because that’s where the strength lies.
She said, “You know politics is a game of number, you can’t runaway from that. The last time it was scuttled, the other person could not complete his two terms. So, it is believed that they will still also complete it. “Then, after that with dialogue on the table and all of us agreeing, with our own strength from East adopt a candidate from Kogi west to become the governor after that.”
Stakeholders at the meeting include, former Kogi governors, Capt. Idris Wada, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, former deputy governor, Arc. Yomi Awoniyi, Senator Tunde Ogbeha, Chief Patrick Adagba, federal legislators from Kogi state, state PDP Chairman, Engr. Uhotu as well as other critical stakeholders drawn from all the local government areas of the state.
