Sarkin Kano and the Chancellor of University of Benin, HRH. Muhammad Sanusi II, has commended the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari for the prompt intervention during the recent strike action embarked on by Universities-based staff unions.
He said the Federal government prompt response to the demands made by the various unions had salvage the nation’s Universities from the brink of collapse.
Sanusi II, made the submission at the 43rd Convocation Ceremony of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) at the Weekend where some distinguished Nigerians including the first female Vice chancellor in Nigeria Universities, Prof. (Mrs) Grace Alele-Williams were honored.
According to Sanusi, “this singular act of magnanimity by the Federal Government has gone a long way in ensuring peace and uninterrupted academic calendar.
The Emir who is the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), tasked the degree and higher degrees holders to imbibe the spirit of innovation, courage, sacrifice, and leadership as well as brace for other challenges that lie ahead of them.
Earlier in their separate remarks, the Pro-chancelor and Chairman Governing Council, Hon. Isa Ashiru and the Vice-chancellor of the University, Prof. Faraday Orumwense, listed the achievements and the challenges including erosion threat at ‘site B’ portion of Ugbowo main Campus of the University.
Responding on behalf of the various awarded, the well-striken in aged first female Vice chancellor of Nigeria University, Prof. (Mrs) Grace Alele-Williams, sued for development of education and Nigeria.
