The presidential ambition of President Goodluck Jonathan recently got a boast with the Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) adopting his candidature for the 2015 contest.

Speaking on the development, The National President of Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN)Chief Sadiq Abubakar said their action was neccessited by the President Jonathan’s performance which is getting commendation from all Nigerians.

His words, “the National Executive council (NEC) of RTEAN wants to make it crystal clear that, we are in support of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan re-election in 2015 general election”. Giving rationale for their stance, they added ‘ in our estimation, we have observed the administration tremendous achievement in the key areas of nation’s economy through the well articulated transformation agenda and we are in full support of any group, union or association that are in support of president Jonathan re-election as well as calls on all Nigerians irrespective of ethnicity, religion or tribe to support him in order to consolidate his legacies for the nation.

He also used the opportunity to appeal to President Jonathan to wade into the crisis rocking his union so as to bring a lasting industrial peace and harmony.

Speaking further shortly after he convened a world press conference last week in Abuja, Chief Abubakar explained that he had taken several legal processes to settle all the lingering problems between his group and the breakaway faction but to no avail.

According to him “The ongoing intra union dispute rocking the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria(RTEAN) in which the break away faction is laying claim to the leadership and the entire group in the country could lead to yet another crises where the activities of major stakeholders in the transport sector would not be able to contribute their quota to Nigeria’s national growth and development”.

He also accused some in the presidency of illegal act, thereby nominating the breakaway group and faction without president Jonathan’s knowledge to participate in the last concluded National Conference on behalf of RTEAN.

The group alleged that “the factional group led-by Musa Shehu Isewele is acting in concert with some political aids to President Jonathan in the capacity of purported national president of RTEAN and is seeking political support to mount pressure on our genuine members who participated in program of sensitization campaign during 2010-2011 general elections” he said.
