Police have arrested two suspects in connection with Tuesday foiled robbery attempt on the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Benin.
Spokesman of the Nigeria Police, Edo State Command, DSP Chidi Nwanbuzor, disclosed this while reacting to the tension around the King Square area.
Our correspondent reports that the robbers were said to have attempted to break into the bank when a bullion van carrying cash to an unknown commercial bank was about leaving the CBN premises, but were repelled by the armed police security team attached to the bank.
Nwabuzor spoke during an audience participatory radio programme which was monitored on Wednesday in Benin.
He said the CBN was not attacked, but, police only burst into a group of suspected cultists at the Museum ground which led to the arrest.
According to him, “two suspects have been arrested. They are helping the police with useful information to ascertain what really happened.
“Edo State is one of the safest States in South South”, he said.
Ahead of the yuletide celebrations, police operatives have been given new orientation to make the State safe.
Responding to the alleged blockade on alleged siege on Benin-Auchi bypass by hoodlums on Tuesday night, he said policemen attached to Aduwawa police Division had rescinded to the incident.
