As the call by the eminent Nigerians, particularly the political stakeholders in Oyo State on the redeployment of the newly redeployed State Resident Electoral Commissioner(REC), Ambassador Rufus Akeju took another dimension yesterday as the human rights group in Nigeria, the Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice(CHRSJ) hascalled for immediate redeployment of the new REC back to the National Headquarters of the Commission in Abuja by the Commission’s National Chairman,Professor Attahiru Jega.

The group said that the immediate redeployment of Akeju would restore the integrity given the Commission in the State during the tenure of former Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) ,Alhaji Nasiru Ayilara.

The group also maintained that it has put all the logistics in place to commence its seven (7) days marathon protest slated for next weekacross the major town of the State as a way to sensitize the good

people of the State on the danger of retain ship of Akeju to conduct the forthcoming general elections in the State.

In a Statement issued and signed by the group’s Executive Chairman,Comrade Adeniyi Alimi Sulaiman which a copy was madeavailable to newsmen in Lagos yesterday, called on President Goodluck

Ebele Jonathan and the leadership of the National Assembly to wade into the matter before it goes out of hand, noting that the stainedpersonality of Akeju would discredit any election conducted in the State under his(Akeju) watch.

Comrade Sulaiman further maintained that the continued stay of Ambassador Akeju as the political head of the Commission in theState, would continue to erode the integrity of the electoral umpire in the State and called on Professor Attairu Jega led-Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to redeploy him back to the National headquarters of the Commission for lesser assignment till the expiration of his tenure in June 2015, urged Jega to rescind hisdecision over the issue without further delaying after all the stakeholders in the State have written Professor Attaihiru Jega-led Commission.

CHRSJ boss who described Ambassador Akeju as Ebola Virus in the electoral body that must be jointly stamped out of the body, stressing that the human rights group has also written the National Chairman of the Commission, Professor Attahiru Jega and copied the both upper and lower chambers of the National Assembly for their notification andtheir immediate action in order to have free, fair, credible and acceptable election in the State Vis a vis Nigeria.
