Director of parks and tree maintenance in FCT department of parks and recreation , Rifkatu Abdulazeez, has stressed the need for residents to learn more about tree planting, in order to contribute in healing the Earth.
Abdulazeez noted that imbibing planting of trees culture would help to reduce the effect of deforestation and help restore healthy living environment in any society.
She therefore advised stakeholders in the FCT to join the campaign against tree felling for commercial and domestic purposes in the Territory.
The Director spoke on the sideline of a recent community-based tree planting and awareness campaign, organised in partnership with a non governmental organisation (NGO), Purple Hands Empowerment Initiative, and Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) in Sabo – Karmo Community, in the nation’s capital city.
She reiterated that the FCT Administration will not relent in taking the tree planting awareness campaign to all nooks and cranny of FCT.
She however urged other organisations and individuals to take a cue from the exercise, so as to widen the scope of the initiative.
