The FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello has called on road users to support and collaborate with the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), in order to internalize safe road culture in the FCT and other parts of the country.
A statement by Chief Press Secretary to FCT Administration, Anthony Ogunleye revealed that Bello made this call during the commissioning of 73 operational vehicles and three ambulances by the FRSC, for the six geopolitical zones of the country.
He further emphasised that it was the duty of every individual citizen, corporate entity and agencies of government to work collectively for the improvement of safe motoring on our roads.
Rrepresented by his Chief of Staff, Mallam Mohammed Bashir Mai-Bornu, said the FCT Administration has continued to improve mobility and road safety within the FCT, through the vigorous expansion of road networks, prompt highway maintenance and the provision of relevant standard traffic signs and symbols.
He however noted that government’s effort in this direction is being hampered by road users who continue to exhibit poor attitude on the roads resulting in the damages of road infrastructure.
He also frowned at the trend of driving against traffic, running the red lights and the defacing of road signals.
The Minister however commended the FRSC over its road patrol initiatives that are aimed at checking the rampant dangerous driving and violation of traffic regulations, including flagrant abuses of traffic light signals within the Abuja metropolis.
He called on the FRSC to emphasize public enlightenment and the enforcement of monetary penalties to serve as deterrence against the abuses of road traffic regulations.
In his address, the Corps Marshall and Chief Executive of the FRSC Dr Boboye Oyeyemi appreciated the FCT Minister, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), the Minister of Transport and other Service Chiefs for opening their doors for collaboration with the FRSC and also said the additional vehicles will further boost coverage along the Airport Road, Kubwa Road and the AYA in the FCT.
