Residents of kaduna state have called for transparency in the implementation Kaduna Social Protection Policy.
The call was made during policy dialogue and senatorial town hall meeting to sensitize the locals on the policy held in Zaria, yesterday.
The dialogue and senatorial town hall was organised by Kaduna Social Protection Accountability Coalition (KADSPAC) in collaboration with the Secretariat of the State Steering Committee on Social Investment Programs (SIP) with support from the Save the Children International (SCI).
Contributing shortly after the dissemination of the Policy by the Coordinator, KADSPAC, Zone 1, Yusuf Goje, participants agreed that, transparency in the full implementation of the Social Protection Policy will serve as a catalyst to its success.
A participant who represented people with disability at the extensive dialogue meeting, Shehu Al-hassan, commended the state government for putting the policy in place.
“People with disability have been coming to me to seek information about social protection. But, I have not been able to answer them because I don’t know what the policy is all about until today.
“With this knowledge of the policy, I can now respond to their enquiries and I commend the organisers who have brought us together as stakeholders in the implementation of the policy”, be said.
Chairman, Zaria Women Enlightenment and Skill Acquisition Multipurpose, Binta Yunusa, called on the implementers of the policy to ensure those at the grassroots do the right thing in the interest of the poor and vulnerable individuals and households.
In a remark, Director, Admin and Finance, Zaria Local Government, Muhammed Kabir Usman who stood in for the Council’s Chairman, Aliyu Idris Usman, called on the participants to participate actively as they would be required to step down the policy in their various communities.
Earlier, Focal Person, Social Protection Programmes in Kaduna State, Amina Saude Atoyebi, restated the commitment of the administration of Governor Nasir El-Rufai towards ensuring every citizen live a dignified life.
She noted that the process is fully driven by the communities themselves through community-based targeting to reduce the errors of inclusion and exclusion of deserving poor and vulnerable households during implementation.
Participants were drawn from different religious, traditional, civil society and relevant political representatives from Zone 1 which comprise of Zaria, Sabon Gari, Lere, Soba, Kaura, Kubau, Ikara and Makarfi local government areas.
Kaduna State Social Protection Policy is a document developed by the Kaduna State Government and partners aimed at addressing issues of extreme poverty and vulnerability among the people residing in the State irrespective of their social statuses.
