Following the present crisis at the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), former governor of Abia state, Orji Uzor Kalu has expressed his desire to drop his political ambition to reform the sector.
The former financier of Nigerian premier league side Enyimba, who disclosed this yesterday with sports writers in Abuja, said that he will contest, if the atmosphere is conducive to do so.
Kalu said that he is interested of restructuring NFF as well as taking the Super Eagles to semi-final or winning the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
“There are some controversies presently at the NFF, suspending Aminu Maigari board members or court injunction sacking the board and dissolving the management staff of the NFF that is not why I am coming in.
“I want to set a World Cup record for Nigeria because I had done it with Enyimba FC, wining the CAF Champions League back to back; I know the politics of the games with and off the pitch.
Peoples Daily Sports gathered that the elections into the NFF board have already been fixed for the 26th of August 2014 and it is on that premise that Kalu believes he become the next NFF boss that can rescue Nigeria’s football should the atmosphere is good.
Kalu, who served as governor for eight years in Abia state, also posited that Nigeria will be the first African side to win the world cup, with him in charge.
Kalu however, assured Nigerians that FIFA can’t ban Nigeria following the dissolution of the NFF board members and the management staff.
“We are in the game, I am a pillar of sports in Nigeria, I called FIFA president Slepp Blatter as I heard the ugly news, we discuss sensitively, they can’t ban us, “ he stated.
