Reps raise panel to probe Plateau killing, Kogi crisis

The House of Representative yesterday set up an Ad-hoc committee to investigate the situation that led to the incessant killing and attacks in Bokkos Local Government of Plateau State and the destruction of properties in Kogi ethic crisis.
This was even as the Lower Chamber urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to embark on -an- on the-spot assessment level of destruction and provide relief materials to the People of Bokkos and the Bassa-Kwomu and Ebira of the Bassa Local Government are of Kogi State.
The lawmakers also urged the Federal Government to direct all reverent security agencies to deploy men to the Bokkos area to forestall breakdown of law and order. The resolution of the House followed a motion sponsored by Hon. Solomon Bulus Maren (Plateau) on the urgent need to arrest the wanton incessant killing/attacks in Bokkos Local Government of Plateau and the motion on the call on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide relief materials to Bassa- Kwomu and Ebira People of Bassa Local government area of Kogi State sponsored Hon. Benjamin Ikani Okolo (Kogi APC) respectively.
Presenting the motion Bulus Maren said the wanton destruction of innocent lives and properties as perpetrated by herdsmen across the country is barbaric, inhuman, disgrace and unacceptable.
“Concerned that, herdsmen attack on innocent citizens has remain a recurrent decimal. Regrettably, this has been treated with kids glove by the authorized concern .
“ Worried that if such heinous acts are allowed unabated it may escalate and could lead to total collapse of peace and security in the areas”
He said, there has been no little or no deliberate measure taking to either stop further attack or bring the perpetrators of the mayhems to books
Ikani Okolo on his motion also disclosed that government has not done much to ameliorate the situation that has resulted into confusion, fear, frustration and agony with a view to avert a recurrence of the incident in the area.
“Also notes that on 28 November 2016, violent crisis erupted at Kpanche in Ozongolo ward in Bassa -Kwomu district of Local Government area which disrupt the peace and harmony between the two district and consequently led to destruction of lives and properties “
The house presided the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara passed the two motion respectively.
