The House of Representatives yesterday postponed the much expected Constitution of its standing committees until September, this year.
This was disclosed by the Ad hoc committee on Media and Public Affairs, as fall out from a closed door session earlier held on Tuesday.
A member of the committee, Hon. Yusuf Gagdi at a media briefing disclosed that Speaker of the House, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila gave the information during the closed door session.
“Of the 102 committees, only the committee on House Services has been constituted, so that during our recess, the committee would be working, to provide office equipment for members”, he stated.
Also lending his voice, another member, Hon. Francis Agbo while responding to a question on why the ethics and privileges committee was hurriedly put up, said it wasn’t targeted at any specific matter. “ It was only put in place to attend to any matter that may arise”, he said.
Recall that the House resumed to a rowdy session in about a fortnight ago, over appointment of minority principal officers, after which the ethics committee was raised.
Baring any last minute adjustment, the House will proceed on its annual recess on July 25, 2019, and expected to be back in session sometime in September.
