The member representing Jos north, Bassa federal constituency, Hon. Haruna Maitala have paid the West African School Certificate Examination (WAEC) fees of not fewer than 500 indigents persons from his constituency through his education empowerment initiative.
The member, according to his senior legislative aide, Abdulkadir Hassan, selected the beneficiaries across wards in the constituency. He said, “the selection exercise was free of bias of all kind, not minding gender, ethnicity or religion. It was done to ensure that those who have reposed confidence on the member and gave him the mandate of taking over their affairs in the parliament, have begin to feel the impact of his leadership”.
He said N12.5milion was paid to seeing that the 500 beneficiaries wrote the forthcoming WASCE.
Abdulkadir also unveiled further plans to supporting much more indigents from the constituency in the forthcoming Unified Tertiary and Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Earlier, the deputy chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Jos north chapter, Ezikel Izant, appreciated the development, nothing that the gesture is part of the determination to fulfilling their campaign promises, in line with Governor Lalong’s vision for a rescue administration and the resolve to take Nigeria to the next level.
Zainab Bala, a beneficiary of the initiative, said “I felt highly elated that the support was given to me when I needed it the most”. She expressed gratitude and prayed God to continue to support the member in the discharge of his responsibility.
Juliet Joseph, another beneficiary of the programme said she was excited for the gesture and appealed to the member, to continue to do much more programmes that will benefit his constituents, plateau state and Nigeria at large.
