• Condemns move to impeach Ortom

By Lateef Ibrahim, Abuja

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and member of All Progressives Congress, Hon Lasun Yusuf yesterday raised the alarm that the National Chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole is on the verge of destroying the ruling party by his actions and conducts.
This is even as the Deputy Speaker declared that he remains a strong member of the APC and that nobody can push him out of the party.
Hon Lasun spoke yesterday while fielding questions from Journalists shortly after declaring open a workshop on “Promoting the Principle of Good for the Advancement of Democracy”, organised by the Human and Environmental Development Agenda, HEDA in collaboration with the House of Representatives’ Committee on Financial Crimes in Abuja yesterday.
The Deputy Speaker, who contested for the governorship ticket of the APC for September 22 gubernatorial election in Osun State but lost, also faulted the Monday’s plot by eight lawmakers out of the thirty members of the Benue State House of Assembly to impeach the Governor, Dr Samuel Ortom.
Hon Yusuf, who frowned at the way and manner the APC governorship primaries in Osun State was conducted, maintained that those who organised the primary were only trying to destroy the party.
According to him, “That chairman is going to destroy that party. The chairman of that party is going to destroy that it. Let me be specific. Comrade Adams Oshiomhole is going to destroy APC.
“I have not spoken since that primary, but I am speaking now. Nobody can drive me out of that party. I am a member of APC. I am going to stay right inside there.
“If the thing is going to collapse, let it collapse on all of us. If it is going to survive, we are going to survive in it together. But that chairman is going to destroy that party.
“I am a member of APC. Nobody can drive me out of APC. Unless, if I will drive people out of APC. Nobody. I repeat, nobody can drive me our of APC. But those who organised that primary they know they are going to destroy that party”, he said.
Speaking on the political happening in Benue State, particular on the move to begin impeachment process again Governor Ortom, the Deputy Speaker described the development as sickening.
His words, “What is going on in Benue is sickening. It is not constitutional. It is not reasonable. It is not morally right and it can never be supported by anything.
“I still don’t believe people can still go back to that kind of level where out of 30 members house, 8 will seat and serve an impeachment notice on a serving governor. They are not covered by the constitution. I am not supporting governor now.
“First and foremost, constitution must be followed. You have a 30-member House. In the constitution, to serve an impeachment notice on the governor, you first of all start with one third. Which is ten. Ten must sign. After that it goes to second reading.
“The second reading must be supported by 2/3 of members. After that there will be a seven man committee that would be set up”, he explained.
