Refugees Commission committed to alleviating suffering of IDPs – NCFRMI Boss

The Federal Commissioner for National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq has given assurance on the Commission’s commitment in alleviating the suffering of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
Hajiya Farouk made this known at the weekend while handing over relief materials to FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) which is under the Federal Capital Administration for onward delivering to Internally Displaced Persons camping in Kwali Area Council.
Speaking while handing over the items to FEMA Director General, Abbas G. Idriss, Hajiya Farouk who was represented by the NCFRMI’s Director of Refugees & Migration, Mr. Lawal M. Hamilu said that FEMA wrote them requesting for relief materials for IDPs that flocked into the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) owing to communal clashes going on in Kogi and Nasarawa States.
Farouk noted that the Commission will be present in the camp during item distribution to ensure international best practices.
Responding after receiving the items, FEMA, DG thanked NCFRMI on behalf of the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Muhammad Musa Bello who he said sent him to accept the gesture.
Idriss however, promised to judiciously share the items to alleviate the suffering of the people taking shelter in the camp.
Speaking on behalf of the affected IDPs, Coordinator IDPs Camp Durumi and Spokesman Abuja IDPs, Mr. Idriss Ibrahim-Halilu who thanked NCFRMI for the kind gesture used the opportunity to appeal to Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki to expedite action to pass the IDPs Bill to ameliorate lives of the IDPs.
The items donated were food items, Educational materials, Non-food items, Basic drugs and Farm inputs.
