A non governmental organisation known as Village Community Development Initiative (VILDEV) with support of IPAS called on speedy passage of proposed Jigawa Violence Against Persons Prohibition bill (VAPP bill) before the end of september in Jigawa state.
The call was made by the executive director VILDEV Jigawa state comrade Lawan Y. Abdullahi during a one day interface meeting with media practitioners held yesterday at Gumel Emirate Foundation.
Comrade Abdullahi who decried rapid increase of rape and other violences against persons particularly at the present era of covid – 19 pandemic, said the best solution to the cases is adoption and passage of the law in the state.
According to him, though Jigawa state government and state house of Assembly are doing their best to reduce the cases but the passage of VAPP bill would be a better solution to the problem in the state.
The executive director also said, Vildev paid and advocacy visits to legislators and other stakeholders as well as series of meeting with religious and traditional leaders in the state.
VILDEV then commended governor Muhammad Abubakar Badaru and Jigawa state house of Assembly for their support and cooperation toward ensuring the passage of the VAPP bill in Jigawa state.
