Rally past leaders to end insurgency in 3 months, Northern govs urge Gen Abdulsalami

Niger state governor and chairman Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF) has urged general Abdulsalami to rally past leaders of the country to help the Northern States Governors curb the menace of Boko haram which has resulted in violence in parts of Northern states of the country.

Dr. Aliyu made this known at the maiden convocation ceremony of the Ibrahim Badamasi University, Lapai, (IBBUL), Niger state, at the weekend.

The governor, who expressed optimism that the security challenges in the Northern states can be crushed in the next 3 months, insisted that with concerted efforts from prominent Nigerians, the horrendous situation in the North will be a thing of the past.

“I appeal to General Abdulsalami Abubakar to invite Babangida, Shagari and TY Danjuma, to come together and assist the NSGF in bringing sanity to North East using their worth of experiences to end the scourge of Boko Haram in the next 3 months”

The governor also called on students of the university to imbibe best moral practice, insisting academics is not only learning but in character. In his plea for good citizenship for nation building among students, the governor said;

“As young people, you also have crucial roles to play in addressing the situation as positive change agents, by advocating for peace, unity, and collective national bargain towards a unified aspiration for development devoid of ethno-religious sentiments in the society.

General Abdulsalami, who is the chairman of IBBU Endowment Fund, announced at the occasion that the fund is yielding results as all collected monies running into hundreds of millions are in a dedicated account awaiting judicious use for developing the institution.

According to the University Vice Chancellor Prof. Ibrahim Kolo that a total of 1,732 students graduated at the maiden convocation with of them came out with first class, 324 with second class upper, 902 as second class lower while a total of 476 made third-class and 22 of them had passed, even as he urged them to be good ambassadors of the institution anywhere the find themselves.
