For the umpteenth time, a heavy rainstorm has destroyed property worth millions of naira in Gwagwalada main market on Tuesday evening, as traders are now counting their loses.
It was gathered that no fewer than one hundred shops were affected and several people injured in and around the market.
According to eyewitness mainly traders in the market, the rain which began at about five in the evening on Tuesday lasted about thirty minutes wrecked havoc as it destroyed one hundred and thirty stalls within the main market.
Also other areas affected by the rainstorm include front of Gwagwalada Police Divisional headquarters, INEC Annex office and Secretariat road where trees were uprooted.
A cross section of the victims revealed that the rain was accompanied with both wind and thunderstorm, just as the traders therefore called on the authority concerned to come to their aid.
However, commenting on what the Area Council is doing concerning natural disaster in its main market, Uthman Abdulazeez is the Head of Department, HOD works with Gwagwalada Area Council, said adequate measures are being put in place to mitigate the seemingly reoccurring menace during rainy season.
