From Olanrewaju Lawal, Ilorin
Four people, including two children, lost their lives during a heavy rainfall in Ilorin, the state capital, on Wednesday night.
It was gathered that about eleven vehicles parked at workshop for repair were carried away while Churches built beside the river and houses, including Royal Sekina, allegedly owned by Senator Smart Adeyemi, were destroyed.
It was learnt that the flood overpowered the affected victims while they were trying to swim across the overflowned river that night.
Some aggrieved residents of the area, it was further gathered, took the law into their hands, as they stoned the window-glasses of the senator’s hotel and some of its fences.
The aggrieved residents, it was learnt, were angry that Senator Adeyemi’s construction of the canal in front of his hotel, blocked the free flow of the River Yanu, along Omosebi area, Gaa Akanbi, Ilorin.
One Mrs. Esther Olukoyi, whose car was among vehicles destroyed by the flood, lamented that she brought her vehicle for painting but it ended up inside the river.
Elder Baba Gidado Ajao, a resident of Omosebi area along Gaa Akanbi said those that built houses along the river bank should vacate the area for channelisation.
He urged the state government to assist the people of the area, stressing that the havoc was too much for the people to bear.
