Rail services’ll soon commence on PortHacourt, North East lines-FG

Fedral Government has assured that effective rail system will soon commence on  Port-Hacourt, (North East) Gombe Yobe  Borno rail line in its effort to improve transportation system in the country Minister of transport Senator Idris Umar has stated this during  inspection tour Of  the on-going  rail line rehabilitation in the North-east axis at the weekend in Bauchi, saying that  about 3,505 km has been successfully completed.

According to him.What we are doing is to ensure that by December, 2014 rail transport services commences from Port-Harcourt to Gombe states, hopely by that time the current security challenges is over,

Idris said “this would also extend same service to Maiguduri, but for now, we are restricted to stop at Bajoga in Gombe state”

The Minister had express delight with the level of the work carried out by the contractor which he added is in tandem with the contractual agreement explaining federal government would not relent in its commitment to revamp the rail transport services in the country.

Senator  stress that  when rail line are  completed would restore the economic value of the affected states regretting that road transport has been responsible for untimely death among Nigerians.

Also speaking during the inspection tour the Director-General Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) Engineer Adeseyi Sijuwade said already the rehabilitation work from Kuru in Plateau state to Bajoga in Gombe state is at the final stages aimed to boast rail services.

The DG pointed out   that in order to curb the menace of crime and robbery, the corporation had involve police and other security agencies to accompany train cargos to various destination to ensure safety of passengers.

He assured that the corporation would provide descent service to passengers as federal government has procured modern air condition cargo’s which is ready for delivery to the NRC explaining that staff welfare is now the priority of the corporation to ensure productivity.

Asijuwade maintain that NRC has introduce new package as bonus determine to motivate staff for better services saying there the management and the railway staff Union are in cordial relationship.

Meanwhile in Gombe, the Minister of Transport, Sen. Idris Umar solicited support to boost Railway transport which according to him would help in developing the nation economy.

While inspecting Railway track at the Nigeria Railway Co-orporation in Gombe, the minister said, the administration of President Jonathan is capable of  restoring the lost glory of Railway lines that have being abandoned for years without proper maintenance.

He assured Nigerian that arrangement has been put in place to ensure that Railway lines that had been abandoned for  years to come back to life.

Speaking further, the minister affirmed that the present administration is working tirelessly to ensure that the abandoned trains across the country would  be back on tract inorder to reduced the suffering of the people from transportation.

According to him, People have started enjoying from the gesture where the present administration had put Railwaylines in good  shape for easy transportation from Lagos to Kano, adding that from Kuru to Maiduguri would be a thing of the past.

The minister who was satisfied with the work done at the  Gombe Railway terminus called on the contractors to put more effort to ensure that they beat the date line given by the government even as he said the government are committed to complete the project before the end of this year.
