From Yakubu Mustapha, Minna
The Executive Secretary, Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Dr. Suleiman Dikko, has said that quality nomadic education for herdsmen will help to end clashes between the nomads and farmers across the country.
Dikko disclosed this yesterday at the concluded three-day workshop in Minna organised by the National Commission for Nomadic Education (NCNE) for nomadic teachers in the North-Central zone.
“Quality education for nomads will help to resolve the security problem we have in this country, because it is occurring as a result of illiteracy and lack of exposure.
“So, if most of these people are reached with western education and enlightenment they will become better citizens of this country,” he emphasised.
He said that the nomads need to be educated to boost their economic endeavour, especially cattle-rearing.
The Executive Secretary said the Commission was partnering with NCNE to ensure the development of nomadic education, especially encouraging peaceful co-existence among herdsmen and farmers.
Earlier, the state commissioner for education, Alhaji Danladi AbdulHameed, said there is need to educate the nomads to avoid farmers’ herdsmen clashes in the country.
He said government free education policy includes the 274 nomads in the state.
