The national leadership of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) on Tuesday, urged politicians to put the nation’s security above their personal ambitions ahead of 2019 general elections.
The PFN national President, Rev. Dr. Felix Omobude, also tasked security agencies and elected leaders to arrest incessant killings by suspected herdsmen and other criminal armed gangs.
The Cleric in a statement on Tuesday in Benin City, specifically appealed to President Mohammadu Buhari to use his enormous powers to bring the various criminal gangs to justice.
He stressed that such measures would help to entrench peace and unity in the nation.
“PFN is therefore urging all political leaders, particularly elected government functionaries to concentrate their efforts in arresting the ongoing human carnage in the country instead of engaging in 2019 election campaigns.
‘’We cannot continue like this as a nation and as a people. A situation whereby some criminally-minded people are holding the nation and Nigerians hostage is not acceptable.
“Every day, you hear of killings by Boko Haram, herdsmen or other armed criminal gangs operating in the country. This is barbaric and the security forces should do more to stop the senseless violent killings and destruction of property”, the statement said.
