Parents have been advised against the practice of helping their children to do assignments or homework as such hindered effective learning development processes in children.
Principal of Wits Wisdom Ideal College, Bwari, Abuja,Mr. Chris Madubike, gave the advice during a recent interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bwari.
Instead, he told parents to dedicate time to inculcating ethical values in their children for good moral upbringing.
“Children don’t know their left from their right, it is the place of their parents to teach them what is right by showing them good examples”, he said.
The principal also advised parents to always look out for early signs of learning disorders in children in order to seek quick medical attention and avoid learning challenges.
He identified common forms of learning disorders to include reading out loud, writing, reasoning, listening, speaking and the fear to do homework regularly.
He, therefore, urged parents to devote more time to their children at home to be able to identify such signs and find solutions to them to enable them to succeed in their educational pursuits.
“There is a wide gap between the classroom and the home; and parents must make out adequate time to discover areas of learning consistently problematic in them.
“By understanding all you can about learning disorders, you can ensure that your child gets the right help to overcome classroom challenges and succeed later life.
“That is why it is important for parents to create quality time for their children, to teach them in ys that are tailored to their unique learning styles at the home. (NAN)
